Mother of George III and daughter in law of George II, Princess Augusta died this week, on 8th February, 1772 of throat cancer. She had 9 children with Prince Frederick, Prince of Wales, and was often caught up in the feud between George II and Frederick and displayed a strength of character to remain a respected figurehead. She outlived her husband by over 20 years and became devoted to the care of her children and had some political influence over her son, the future George III
