Italian Historical Medallions
Medallion production started in Italy during the Renaissance period in the 15th century. The main artist of that time was PIsanello who was a celebrated Italian painter and he created medals that were large in diameter with a high level of detail. Medallic art then spread in the Netherlands, Germany and later to Britain.
