Arts & Education Medallions
In comparison to Royal and Military medallions, only a small number of medals representing Arts and Education were produced. In fact medals representing the Arts tended to focus more on the engravers and medallists of the time. However in the mid 19th Century a series of medals were struck commemorating a range of British artists from painters, sculpters and architects. This was called The Art Union series and ended in 1887 with a medal commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Many of the series can be seen in this collection.
